Learning English

I saw this advert on a building in Prague. It reads "Pingu's English. English courses for children from three years old."

What next - Czech children learning German with the telletubbies? Japanese with Bill and Ben the flowertop men?

If learning english is the goal, the earlier the better and what ever get the message across is good enough.
Babies start learning the natural way even younger.

Do you know that he and his girl friend Pingi belong to Linguaphone Group,a world-leading language training provider and licensed in 18 countries?

Interesting point, Potok! Although Pingu might not have the most diverse vocabulary, I can see the reasoning behind... Teaching is all about engaging students and capturing their hearts. Pingu is very popular with children... My niece would sit in front of the TV for hours watching this penguin which really doesn't speak... as a teacher, once you have their attention, you have won most of the battle...

I totally agree with the goal - I just think that there are better children's characters to choose from - ones that speak properly and live in an environment which is full of useful words - there isn't much call for igloos, skis, or snow in English.
